Filipino maid’s salary in Singapore to increase to at least $550 a month
Beginning of 2016, Filipino maid’s salary in Singapore will be increased to $550.

Employers of Filipino maids in Singapore will now have to pay them at least $550 a month or ₱18, 563.24 based on the current Singapore dollar to Philippine Peso exchange rate.
The salary raise came three months after the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore announced that Indonesian maids must receive at $550 a month; up by $50 from the previous $500.
The salary of a Filipino maid in Singapore was established by the Philippine government to at least $400 a month over 10 years ago, but according to the Association of Employment Agencies Singapore (AEAS) president K. Jayaprema, AEAS had a consensus 3 years ago with the Philippine Embassy in Singapore to give Filipino maids at least $500 a month to avoid exchange rate inconstancy.
Jayaprema said some Filipino helpers like those doing caregiver services and elder-care roles were given higher salaries; at least $600 a month, but admitted that the majority still receive $500.
There are currently 70,000 Filipino maids in Singapore out of the more than 227,100 domestic helpers. Indonesian maids make up the lion’s share of the house helps in the country with 125,000.
