We always think an experienced helper is always the better helper. However, experience doesn’t always guarantee the quality of the helpers. Quality is a subjective matter. We often ask, “Is she experienced enough for the job?” rather than “Does she have the qualities I prefer?” The second quote should be the priority question we need to ask. Does Madam need a helper who is good in taking care of children? Or does madam need someone to take care of the house while she’s at work? She could have years of experience but it doesn’t often mean she fits your standards and job description.
Some experienced helper find it hard to unlearn the things they used to do in the old household they work in. They are more independent and usually don’t consult their employer before doing some chores. They are used to do things the way their old employer wants. So, when it comes to their initial personal training, we cannot say that experienced helpers are better. Experienced or not, madam should still give adequate observation and assessment to their helpers.
An inexperienced helper, on the other hand, does the opposite things. Because they are too careful and afraid to make an initiative, they tend to wait for their employer to tell them what to do. Employers need to be extra patient to inexperienced FDWs. Their lack of initiative could be quite a disadvantage for some but this also means she’s hesitant to do the things the employer didn’t command. This can be an advantage for her too.
Experience, sometimes, doesn’t make an FDW better. The standards vary, depending on what you are looking for! If madam is less confident and it is her first time to hire a helper to help her, she can also choose an inexperienced less confident helper. In this way, both of them adjust and grow through time. We should weigh our advantages and disadvantages before giving a decision.
