How to make Children Eat Healthily
How to make Children Eat Healthily
Toddlers and older kids always have an impulse to consume something that’s not good for them. Serve a cake alongside with vegetable salad and they would pick the cake without a question. Pediatricians tell us that insisting food preference is common in children but parents and Indonesian maids or Filipino maids don’t need to tolerate it.
Are you one of the parents who want their kids to love vegetables and fruit over mac and cheese? Eden Grace Maids Agency is alongside with you and your maid in Singapore to keep your little ones healthy. Here are some tips to get kids to eat more veggies:
1. Be a veggie-eater yourself
Children do something because they see the family do it. So, if parents are determined to see their children eat healthily, they must be the model for their kids. Start with putting more vegetables and fruits in the fridge and normalize healthy meals at home like it fatty food isn’t even an option.
Let veggies be everywhere! Together with the Indonesian maid or Filipino maid, make a small potted garden in your flat and grow veggies at home. When kids are accustomed to eating them, they wouldn’t ask for a special burger meal.
2. One bite only
According to research, it’s good to reintroduce a dish to the child at least 8 times even after he has rejected it once. The Indo maid or Filipino maid can enforce the one-bite rule where children should eat at least a mouthful of the veggies he didn’t like. Eating the same dish several times can make him accept the dish eventually, studies found.
In connection to food familiarization, the Indo maid or Filipino maid must also stick to what the child likes. If the little boy likes chocolate shake, try making a healthy apple-banana shake for him too. The goal is to make the new healthy food and the taste/texture familiar instead of serving a strange new food. Serving it first in small amounts before upgrading to one plate of it works well too!
3. Offer Choices
Children don’t like being ruled over or being forced to do stuff. However, the Indo maid or Filipino maid can make kids feel like they have choices to end the power struggle. Give kids some harmless option like “breakfast in the Elsa Frozen plate or breakfast in the Spongebob bowl?”. They like to feel in control and this is one way to give them ‘power’ without affecting their health.
If possible, let the Indo maid or Filipino maid engage kids in cooking. Kids can choose between 2 kinds of veggies as the main ingredient for dinner. They will most likely enjoy their food when the maid cooked with them!
4. Make breakfast fun
Green peas are boring and plain until the nanny make it sound like the peas are basketballs which needs to be dunked to the ring aka his hungry mouth. The Indonesian maid or Filipino maid can turn it into a playtime! Get extra creative by putting more colours in the serving or turning the omelette into a happy emoji.
Have you tried asparagus in pizza, spinach with cheese, or candied baby carrots? If not yet, check the wide variety of kid-friendly recipes on the internet!
5. Promote the love for healthier food
Tiny humans don’t see the world as adults do. Explaining to them how much calories a plate of fries has wouldn’t stop them from eating some. Instead of teaching them to hate a certain group of food, the Indonesian maid or Filipino maid can promote love for healthier food instead, “Spinach helps you grow taller like Popeye!” instead of saying “Coke is bad because I said it”.
Kids won’t like veggies at first but they eventually will! Just be patient and work closely with your Indonesian maid and Filipino maid. We hope the tips help.
