Filipino Maids–Indonesian Maid: Bacteria in the Household and How to get Rid of Them
Aside from you and your family, there are other creatures living in your house. Some are lurking and multiplying in your kitchen, some of them you are currently inhaling in, some are breeding inside you, and some are crawling on your skin right now! These creatures are harmful bacteria that are responsible for strep throat, food poisoning, tuberculosis, and a whole bunch of diseases. That is why you should know their kinds and how to get rid of them.
Here are some stuff and parts of your house and what bacteria live in them:
1. The bathroom
Having unfriendly microorganisms in the bathroom is obviously unavoidable. Fecal bacteria are always unseen lurking in the bathroom because we go in there to get rid of our body wastes in the first place. Some Fecal bacteria may survive after chemicals and water wiped out some of them. However, the ones which survived will mostly live on a moist and oxygen-poor place which suit their kind. This is why cleaning with bleach and water will leave your bathroom covered with moisture-loving fecal bacteria. However, the fecal bacteria are often displaced by skin bacteria which are the major cause of the famous staph infections in the hospitals. We can be sure we are protected from these microorganisms as long as we clean bathrooms with soap and water and keep it dry as much as possible.
2. The sink
Most Pseudomonas bacteria don’t do much against our health but there is one kind that can cause serious infection and that is the Pseudomonas aeruginosa. When water from the sink gets splashed around, little drops go airborne. They may settle on your body and get carried everywhere you go which increases the risk of infection. To inhibit these villains, heat the sink to 70 degrees to stop outbreak of infection.
3. The computer keyboard
Several scientific-based articles were published about computer keyboards having more bacteria than toilet seats. It is true, given that we clean toilets more often than we clean computers which we touch all the time. Researchers introduce the Micrococcus bacteria as the main culprit found on the keys of your keyboard. Computer users with weak immune systems can be victims of these creatures. But there is worse news for people who eat while using the computer. Scientists have found out that their keyboard has comparative large colonies of Enterococcus and these are more dangerous than Micrococcus. Enterococcus can cause various medical problems from urinary tract infections to meningitis and they are known to be resistant to antibiotics. Avoid eating on the computer to avoid health problems.
Every day, we brush away from our mouth most of the Streptococcus mutans that causes tooth decay. However, a little community of bacteria left in our mouth are transported to the bedroom to the pillow when we drool as we sleep. Your pillowcase which you lay your sensitive face unto is full of oral bacteria. It is true that dry pillow is not ideal for the bacteria’s growth but we must also remember that we renew their supply as we sleep again every night. Don’t let these tiny beasts eat away your skin. Change your pillows as often as possible for they are as dirty as the clothes you wear.
People with strong immune systems can be spared from the infections these bacteria cause. However, there are times our body loses the fights. To avoid troubles with bad bacteria, remember the remedies above and regularly disinfect the house. It is also important to eat healthy food or take multivitamins that strengthens the immune system. Lastly, take note of the things that may stop the harmful bacteria: heat and dryness.
