6 Points to Remember About Babies’ Sleeping Habits
Infants have habits that may change an adult’s routine. For Nannies, expect to have sacrifices for the comfort of young one. Their sleeping routine, for instance, is a huge change you need to adjust to. Check out these several points to remember when helping a baby have the soundest sleep.
They sleep sixteen hours or more!
Sleeping promotes physical growth to all ages, especially to babies. Because of their underdeveloped body, Infants need longer sleeps than adults. Even some bones are still forming while they’re growing up and aside from calcium, adequate sleep will help make them develop.
Babies don’t sleep through the night.
Your child’s cry may wake people at 3 AM. This might be annoying for parents or the rest of the people in the household but infants’ weird sleeping patterns actually mean they are healthily growing up. Babies need to develop their own sleeping patterns and cycles and they usually sleep for periods of 2-4 hours. This is because their digestive system is so small that they feel hungry every3 to 4 hours. When babies reach the 3rd month, they may able to sleep through the night.
Their cribs and beds must be stuff-toy-free.
Babies are not as conscious as adults when in come to their sleeping positions. When you are sleeping next to your child, make sure to give them enough space that they can freely breathe. Also, beware of putting much pillows, stuff toys, fluffy beddings, quilts, and sheepskins. Minimize these items because these might suffocate your baby while sleeping. If possible, check them every few hours if they are still comfortably sleeping.
Check their sleeping positions often.
Make sure to place babies on their backs to prevent SIDS. If we notice, the babies’ head are still soft and can still be deformed if parents are not too careful. Be sure to alternate the position of their head when asleep. Let the baby face right when sleeping then reposition it to the left after some time. Do this repeatedly to avoid the forming of the flat spot on one side of his head.
Babies are nocturnal.
Infants can be more alert when awake at night or sleepy during the day. To correct their body clock, keep the stimulation to a minimum during the night. Minimize the noise or reserve the talking and playing to a daytime schedule. Also, let the lights on the room be dim so he can easily sleep.
